FAQ's

The Containers for Change™ scheme requires that all containers be counted individually at Container Refund Points, either by hand or reverse vending machine for transparency and accuracy. There are currently no reverse vending machines at ABC Recycling, therefore all containers brought in need to be hand-counted by ABC Recycling staff.

No the rings around bottle necks are fine to leave on, and we recommend leaving labels on all containers as well. Containers must be identifiable as eligible for a refund and this can be more difficult if the label has been removed. Acceptance of containers without labels is at the discretion of our staff.

Yes you’re free to use any box or bag to transport your containers to us. Please separate your glass from your other containers for safety reasons, and for faster processing we recommend sorting all of your other containers into plastic, cans, and cardboard as well. We can’t keep your boxes or bags so you will need to take them with you once we’ve collected your containers.

Yes, as of 1 Nov 2023 glass wine & pure spirit bottles between 150ml & 3L are now eligible.

Flavoured milk containers must be rinsed.

All of our operational areas are under CCTV surveillance for your peace of mind.

If you think some of your containers are missing, we would be happy to review surveillance footage for you.

If you believe there may have been an error in our counting, please let our staff know and we’d be happy to re-count your containers.

Yes But please remember to bring photo ID with you, as the Containers for Change™ scheme does require that for larger drop-offs of 825 containers or more, photo ID must be shown before payment can be made.

Yes We can refuse to accept your containers for these reasons:

  • If we believe the container may have been contaminated (ie. With sand or dirt, paint, petrol, noxious substances, etc.)
  • If the container is not recognisable as an eligible container (ie. Cans that have been crushed beyond recognition, glass bottles that are broken etc.)
  • If the container is not eligible under the scheme.

Yes Businesses can set up a Containers for Change™ account. Tax invoices will be emailed to your nominated email and refunds deposited to your nominated business bank account.

Payments made directly into the bank account you’ve nominated in your Containers for Change™ account can take up to 5 business days to process. When your container drop-off has been finalised, we’ll give you a print out of your refund so you can keep track of what’s being deposited into your bank account.

Although it is difficult to predict how long you will have to wait, generally our quieter times are before 3pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which means shorter waiting times for customers.
